Man arrested for felony DUI after injuring two in crash Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, at 9:22 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Shady Ln and N Walnut Rd, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first one was a silver 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and the second one was a white 2019 Toyota RAV4.

It’s currently unknown how many occupants were in each vehicle, however, there were at least two in the white RAV4 that suffered minor injuries. One of the two ended up being ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.

Officers began investigating and spoke with witnesses who told them that prior to the collision, the silver Malibu had been seen heading northbound on N Walnut Rd from W Christoffersen Pkwy, while the white RAV4 had been seen heading westbound on Shady Ln from Tahama Ln. As the two vehicles approached the intersection, the white RAV4 pulled out and began making a left turn to go southbound on N Walnut Rd, however, was broadsided by the silver Malibu while doing so which was reportedly at a high rate of speed.

Officers then began speaking with the driver of the silver Malibu, who identified himself as Hector Rosas, 23, of Keyes, and noticed that he was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers ultimately determined that Rosas was under the influence of alcohol.

Rosas was arrested and refused to provide a chemical sample as required by California’s implied consent law, so he was transported to a local hospital and a blood sample was forcefully drawn after a search warrant was written and authorized.

Afterward, Rosas was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater, and possession of a controlled substance. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
