At about 9:00pm Thursday, Turlock Police responded to a vandalism that had just occurred at Crane Park in the 1500 block of E. Canal Drive.

The caller reported her ex-boyfriend, John Harp, 65, of Modesto, had just stabbed one of her vehicle’s tires before driving off in his vehicle with his new girlfriend.

Officer McCrae responded to the park and contacted the victim, while other officers searched the area for Harp.

The victim stated that she and her friends, who live out of their vehicles near the park, were passing the time in the park when approached by Harp. Harp made a threat against the victim’s life, which she took as credible. Harp then left the park but returned a short time later. That’s when the victim observed Harp cutting one of her vehicle’s tires, deflating it.

A few hours later, at 1:35am, Officer Rocha located Harp’s vehicle parked near Harbor Freight Tools in the 2800 block of N. Tegner Road. Inside, Rocha located Harp and his new girlfriend.

After speaking with McCrae and confirming there were felony wants for Harp, Rocha placed him under arrest and transported him to the Turlock Police Department where he was served with an emergency protective order.

Harp was then booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of threatening to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury to another person and vandalism.
