On Monday, February 6th, 2023, at 12:36 am, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of S Golden State Blvd and Golf Rd, Turlock, observed a driver violating the California Vehicle Code, so he attempted to make a traffic stop on him, however, he took off from the officer and a pursuit ensued.
The driver, Dominic Gumiran, 34, of Delhi, went southbound on S Golden State Blvd at a high rate of speed and eventually merged onto southbound State Route 99. He then took the W Bradbury Rd exit, however, was unable to negotiate the right turn he wanted to make at the end of the off-ramp due to his high rate of speed. Gumiran’s vehicle drove off the overpass in a southwesterly direction and landed front-end first in an embankment after a 20-foot drop, before overturning several times and coming to rest on the driver’s side.
Additional officers arrived and assisted Gumiran out of his vehicle by breaking his vehicle’s sunroof.
The Merced County Fire Department and Riggs Ambulance Service responded and ground transported Gumiran to a local hospital with minor injuries, while the California Highway Patrol responded to investigate the collision.
After Gumiran was medically cleared, he was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of eluding a peace officer by vehicle with disregard for public safety.
The pursuit lasted about two minutes and covered a total distance of just under three miles.
