Man Arrested After Attempted Burglary to Park Building With Knife

At about 7:27pm Saturday, Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense in progress at Donnelly Park in the 600 block of Pedras Road.

The caller reported a man was using a knife in an attempt to get into the restrooms, where a woman and child were.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted John Cervantes, 49, of Turlock, who they immediately recognized from prior contacts.

Cervantes was on searchable probation for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and officers had been out with him twice the prior night during suspicious person and trespass calls.

Officers began investigating and determined Cervantes wasn’t actually attempting to get into the occupied restrooms, but rather a storage room in the same building.

The storage room door had been damaged and a broken piece of a knife was lodged in it.

The other piece of the knife was recovered in Cervantes’ possession and booked into evidence.

Cervantes was also displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence of an unknown drug.

Cervantes was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety on charges of burglary, disorderly conduct, and violation of probation.
