At about 3:44pm Thursday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to an aggravated assault that had just occurred behind New Town Cafe Restaurant in the 800 block of W. Hawkeye Avenue.
The caller reported someone had just been stabbed, CPR was in progress, and the suspect was still on scene.
When officers Jimenez and Ruiz arrived on scene, they found a man down with CPR still in progress.
Officers quickly detained the suspect and took over CPR, also applying a tourniquet.
When firefighters and medics arrived on scene a few minutes later, they immediately declared the victim deceased.
The victim was identified as Isaac Urias, 25 of Ceres, and the detainee Marcos Urias, 20 of Ceres. They were brothers.
Officer Gallegos recovered the knife used, while others established a crime scene and detectives arrived on scene to assume the investigation.
During the investigation, both westbound lanes of W. Hawkeye Avenue were shut down between Dels Lane and N. Golden State Boulevard.
The investigation revealed that Isaac and Marcos had gotten into an altercation. The altercation eventually escalated to the point where the stabbing occurred.
Marcos was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of murder.
A deputy coroner responded to the scene and took possession of Isaac’s body, while a vehicle was towed to the Turlock Public Safety Facility to be processed for evidence.
“This is a tragic incident where an altercation between brothers turned deadly,” said Chief Hedden. “Our hearts go out to those affected, and we are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what exactly happened.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Detective Urban at 209-668-6571.
