At about 12:02am Monday, Turlock Police Officer De La Cruz attempted to make a traffic stop at Colorado Avenue and E. Hawkeye Avenue.

The vehicle was associated with a suspect wanted in connection to a domestic violence incident.

Instead of stopping for De La Cruz, the vehicle’s driver, Michael Blase, 45, of Turlock, took off and a pursuit ensued.

Blase led officers throughout east Turlock, rural Hughson, and eventually onto northbound Highway 99.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office became involved in the pursuit and deployed spike strips several times, resulting in Blase losing several tires.

During the pursuit, Blase was sending his family messages threatening suicide-by-cop and videos of being chased.

Turlock Police eventually began to lose radio reception in north Modesto, resulting in deputies completely taking over the pursuit.

Stanislaus County deputies continued to chase Blase into San Joaquin County until he eventually decided to stop on Highway 99 just north of Highway 120 in Manteca.

Blase exited his vehicle but refused to comply with deputies, resulting in a canine biting and apprehending him.

Blase was transported by Manteca District Ambulance to San Joaquin General Hospital where he was medically cleared.

Turlock Police responded to San Joaquin General Hospital to take custody of Blase.

Afterward, Blase was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of domestic violence inflicting corporal injury, false imprisonment, threatening to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury, fleeing from a peace officer by vehicle with disregard for public safety, fleeing from a peace officer by vehicle, and resisting a peace officer.
