A Turlock Lowe’s employee is facing embezzlement charges after allegedly taking thousands of dollars from store for approximately a year.
According to Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis, Sonya Leopoldo, 44, was fraudulently refunding store invoices and pocketing the cash.
Leopoldo allegedly embezzled more than $5,000 during the scheme, which began in mid-2014, said Lewis.
The company found out about the fraud when a customer called to let them know he had received a refund on his credit card, but had not returned anything.
Upon further investigation, Leopoldo was believed to be the guilty party and was arrested at Lowe’s on Wednesday.
