More than 70 community members will come together on Sept. 17 to put on the largest community yard sale in Turlock. The goal of the event is to provide an opportunity for community members to have a yard sale and allow nonprofit organizations in Turlock a chance to engage with the community.
Some community members may not be able to host a yard sale, such as residents that live in apartments, but the Cornerstone Covenant Church Community Yard Sale provides that opportunity. During the event, the nonprofit organizations can engage community members about their causes while raising funds gaining needed exposure.
“As a seller, the community yard sale is an excellent motivator to clean out the garage! I know several sellers who will put off their annual purging each year until the sale comes around in September,” says Justin Marty, the event’s organizer for the past five years.
“As a buyer, the yard sale is a bargain seekers’ paradise. Where else can you hit so many yard sales at one time? Plus, the sale provides some great local non-profits the opportunity to gain exposure and meet some people they wouldn’t normally see.”
This year nonprofit organizations attending the Community Yard Sale will be Celebrate Recovery, ABC Project, Prodigal Sons & Daughters, Turlock Gospel Mission, Teen Challenge, Alpha Phi Omega, and the We Care Program of Turlock.
