Legendary rock band Kansas will play at the Stanislaus County Fair this summer, fair officials announced Tuesday.
“Kansas has paved the way for many rock groups and artists,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “We are thrilled to have them perform at the Stanislaus County Fair.”
Kansas is perhaps best known for their hit singles “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind.” Both were certified gold singles.
Those two songs came from the 1976 album “Leftoverture” and 1977’s “Point of Know Return,” respectively, both of which reached the top five on Billboard’s pop album chart.
Kansas’s later albums continued to be popular, with Top 40 singles like “People of the South Wind,” “Hold On,” “Play the Game Tonight,” and “All I Wanted,” but the band never recaptured the success it saw during the ‘76-’77 period.
Kansas will play at 8:30 p.m. July 12 on the Bud Light Variety Free Stage. The concert is free with the price of fair admission.
The 2014 Stanislaus County Fair opens July 11 for a 10-day run. Discounted fair admission tickets go on sale May 3.
