A new art exhibition has decked the walls of Turlock City Hall with inspiring images of the city's most famous former resident – San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who graduated from Pitman High School.

“It's truly beautiful,” said City Manager Roy Wasden.

The exhibition, entitled “Hometown Inspration,” consists solely of work created by Pitman High School art students. Those students were assigned by instructors Larry DeTomasi, Vincente Rosales, and Will Creighton to create digital art based on Kaepernick.

“If you haven't stopped to take a peek, I really recommend it,” Turlock City Councilmember Bill DeHart said. “There's really been some outstanding work by the Pitman students.”

Students used Adobe Photoshop to manipulate images, add text, and create new works which emphasize Kaepernick's roots, work ethic, and athletic skills.

Rosales laminated all of the artwork, which was then framed and hung by Turlock City Arts Commission members. Turlock Unified School District Trustee Eileen Hamilton sponsored the exhibition.

The artwork was initially displayed at the Turlock Believes tailgate party, organized by the Turlock Education Foundation and held in advance of the Super Bowl. It was made available to the City of Turlock by the TUSD.

The unique origin of the artwork means the exhibition differs in one major aspect from traditional City Hall exhibitions by professional artists: visitors can't take any of the pieces home.

“It's available to look at and enjoy, but it's not available for sale,” Wasden said.

An end date for the exhibition has not been set but the display may end soon, according to Wasden, who urged interested parties to see the artwork soon.

The exhibition hangs in the upstairs Turlock City Hall Art Gallery, located at 156 S. Broadway. The gallery is open only during normal City Hall business hours. Admission is free.
