On Sunday night, the Turlock Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting a fire in the 200 block of Vermont Avenue. Turlock firefighters arrived to visible smoke and flames coming from a second story bedroom window.
All 6 occupants escaped prior to arrival including a 10 year old girl who escaped by crawling out a second story window onto the roof and jumping into her stepfather’s arms on the ground below.
After arriving, Fire crews initiated an aggressive search and fire attack. A puppy was rescued from the inside of the residence by the first in fire crew.
The fire was controlled within 20 minutes of arrival and crews spent several hours checking for extension in the attic and roof.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The fire caused heavy damage to the upstairs of the residence. The family will most likely have to call in builders or the likes of Roof repair by 99Roofers to repair any damage to the structure. The estimated dollar loss for the structure and contents is $50,000.
Two children ages 8 and 10 were treated on scene for smoke inhalation and transported by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center and released. The residence was uninhabitable and Red Cross provided assistance.
