At about 2:05am Thursday, Officer Gallup made a traffic stop at Balswick’s Tire & Auto Service in the 400 block of N. Golden State Boulevard.
The driver of the vehicle had started to brake while approaching a yellow light, but then accelerated through the intersection as the light turned red right in front of Gallup.
Gallup approached the passenger side of the vehicle and its driver, later identified as Michael Sano, 44, of Turlock, made a motion towards the passenger door, so Gallup opened it thinking the windows were broken.
Sano immediately became hostile with Gallup and stated he hadn’t given him permission to open the door. He also refused to give his identification card, telling Gallup to come around to the driver’s side to get it instead because he didn’t want his passenger to get cold.
Additional units were requested as Sano became even more hostile. As they arrived on scene, they had Sano exit the vehicle. He continued his hostility until having TASERs pointed at him.
Eventually, Sano was detained and his passenger identified herself and him. Sano’s driver’s license was discovered to be expired.
Sano was arrested and released on a citation on the charge of driving without a valid license.
