Even with No Stage, The Show Must Go On for Turlock High Drama

Due to the Turlock High School Modernization Project, The Turlock High School Drama Department doesn’t have a home stage this school year.

Throughout the year the Performing Arts building on campus is under construction — but the show must go on!

Thanks to generosity of the Carnegie Arts Center, THS Drama will present “The Big Meal” by Don Lefranc at Carnegie from Nov. 20 to 22 with shows on all three nights at 7 p.m. and a matinee show on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets to The Big Meal cost $10 general admission and can be purchased at the Carnegie Arts Center Box Office, located at 250 N. Broadway Ave., or the THS Activities Office, located at 1600 E. Canal Dr..

Despite not having a stage to rehearse, the THS Drama Department students have been moving forward and working hard.

“They’ve been really good about this. In the beginning it was hard but they’ve realized that it doesn’t really matter where you rehearse, I’m so proud of them,” said Drama Teacher Michelle VanNieuwenhuyzen. “A lot of people thought we weren’t going to have drama this year.”

Throughout the year Drama students have been rehearsing in an old art classroom on campus.

The biggest challenge for the Drama students has been not being able to work on the technical side of the performance, such as setting up lights, stage materials, costumes and audio.
