On Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at 10:12 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of N Olive Ave and E Hawkeye Ave, Turlock.
When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first was a 2021 Harley-Davidson Road Glide and the second was a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.
The Road Glide had a single rider, Kevin Vandewark, 49, of Turlock, and the GLA-Class had two occupants, a driver and his passenger. Vandewark only suffered minor injuries, and so did the passenger of the GLA-Class, who complained of pain in her side. The passenger of the GLA-Class was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.
Officers began speaking with Vandewark and noticed that he was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Vandewark was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested.
Vandewark was transported to a local hospital where he was medically cleared. Afterward, he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury to another person. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
