At about 1:10am Saturday, Turlock Police responded to a battery in progress at The Udder Place in the 100 block of W. Main Street.
The caller reported there was a large group of people fighting in front of the busn.
Officers arrived in the area and stopped an involved vehicle in front of La Cantina as it was leaving.
Due to one of the vehicle’s occupants being uncooperative, a high-risk stop was conducted and all occupants were detained at gunpoint.
Officers began investigating and identified the uncooperative occupant as Matthew Valdez, 37, of Modesto.
It’s worth noting that this incident occurred on the night of Valdez’s birthday.
When officers had their dispatcher run Valdez, they discovered he had two $75,000 felony warrants for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, one out of Ceres and the other out of Modesto.
Valdez also displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence and was unable to care for himself.
No further action was taken regarding the initial battery.
Valdez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of resisting a peace officer, disorderly conduct, and his warrants.
Everyone else who was involved was released from detention.
