At about 9:42am Monday morning, Turlock Police responded to a hit-and-run that had just occurred in front of a residence in the 300 block of Grant Avenue.

The caller reported that her vehicle had been parked in front of her residence when a woman driving a black SUV struck it and fled the scene. The caller’s boyfriend had followed the woman for a short period but lost her.

While officers were responding, they received a second call reporting a dangerous driver in the area of Vermont Avenue and West Avenue S., that had run a stop sign and nearly struck the caller. That caller reported that the vehicle was a black Nissan Rogue missing a tire and driving on its rim, appearing to have been involved in a collision.

Officers arrived in the area a short time later and located the vehicle at Diamond Truck Sales in the 1200 block of S. Soderquist Road.

The driver of the vehicle was contacted and identified as Alicia Gonzales, 36, of Turlock.

Gonzales was determined to have a suspended driver’s license and was on probation for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and child abuse or endangerment under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death.

She also displayed objective symptoms of driving under the influence and had at least four prior DUI convictions.

Gonzales was put through standardized field sobriety tests and performed poorly on them.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Gonzales was under the influence of alcohol and arrested her.

Gonzales refused to provide a chemical sample, so she was transported to Doctors Medical Center where a blood sample was forcefully drawn after officers obtained a search warrant.

Through the investigation, Gonzales and her vehicle were able to be linked to the original hit-and-run on Grant Avenue.

Gonzales was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in property damage.

She was also issued a driver’s license suspension order and her vehicle was impounded.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
