On Wednesday, May 17th, 2023, at 1:47 am, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of Geer Rd and North Ave, Turlock, observed a man driving a vehicle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on him.
The man was slow to stop for the officer, however, eventually did so after striking the curb and going up onto it.
The officer made contact with and identified the man as Arturo Mendez, 31, of Turlock.
Mendez displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence, so he was removed from his vehicle and asked if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Mendez agreed and completed the tests. He was then asked if he’d be willing to blow into a preliminary alcohol screen device, which he agreed to and did.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, the officer determined that Mendez was under the influence of alcohol.
Mendez was arrested and provided two breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The breath samples revealed that Mendez had a blood alcohol content of .13%.
Mendez was released on a citation on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
