On Thursday, December 23rd, 2021, at 9:42 pm, the Turlock Police Department and Turlock Fire Department were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with unknown injuries at the intersection of W Taylor Rd and N Golden State Blvd, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they located a single vehicle involved, a white Volkswagen sedan, that had struck a traffic light pole.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Alexander Thomas, 26, of Turlock, was uninjured.

Officers noticed signs of intoxication coming from Thomas, so they asked him to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and to blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device. As a result of those tests, Thomas was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently arrested for it.

The vehicle sustained major damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.

It is currently unknown how the collision occurred.

Thomas was released on a citation on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.
