At about 6:42pm Wednesday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision with injuries at W. Main Street and West Avenue S.
When officers arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved and a traffic signal pole that needed a contractor to respond to perform repairs.
The driver of one of the vehicles was identified as Luis Flores, 26, of Merced.
Flores had two passengers in his vehicle, both of which complained of pain, and one of which was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.
While speaking with Flores, Officer Diaz noticed that he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so he asked him if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Flores agreed and completed the tests.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, Diaz determined Flores was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.
Flores was issued a driver’s license suspension order and then provided two breath samples at the scene for his chemical test required by California’s implied consent law.
Afterward, Flores was transported to Doctors Medical Center for medical clearance.
After being cleared, Flores was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.
Additionally, Flores’ vehicle was towed.
