On Sunday, April 30th, 2023, at 8:25 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle collision that had just occurred in front of a residence in the 300 block of Lander Ave, Turlock.
When officers arrived on scene, they found three vehicles involved. The first was a white 2009 Dodge Challenger, the second was a black 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, and the third was a black 2020 Acura ILX.
The white Challenger had a single occupant, its driver, later identified as Osvaldo Ramirez, 30, of Turlock, and the other two vehicles had been unoccupied and lawfully parked on the side of the road. Ramirez didn’t suffer any injuries.
The white Challenger and the black Silverado sustained moderate damage, while the black ILX sustained minor damage.
While speaking with Ramirez, officers noticed that he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed and completed the tests.
A bystander then showed up and stated that Ramirez had just fled the scene of another collision with a parked vehicle in the 800 block of Eight St that the California Highway Patrol was investigating. Officers notified the CHP that they had Ramirez and the officer investigating their collision showed up to speak with him, along with a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputy who was investigating a stalking allegation involving some underaged girls.
Ramirez was determined to be the driver involved in the other collision, however, the stalking allegation was unfounded.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Ramirez was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and provided two breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The results of the breath samples revealed that Ramirez had a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater.
Ramirez was then transported to a local hospital where he was medically cleared. Afterward, he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
