Don Pedro Relicensing Update on TID Agenda

The Turlock Irrigation District Board of Directors will hear an update on the project to relicense Don Pedro Dam and Reservoir on Tuesday.

TID operates Don Pedro through a license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The dam was last relicensed in 1966.

TID began the process to relicense Don Pedro in 2010, filing paperwork and beginning 35 different studies needed to obtain the federal government's approval. Additionally, TID will spend $60 to $80 million to upgrade the dam and powerhouse.

The outcome of the relicensing will likely have some impact on the amount of water TID can make available to customers, as many environmental groups are fighting for a share of the district's water.

TID expects the relicensing project to end in April 2014.

On Tuesday, the TID Board of Directors is also expected to:
• Hear regular weekly updates on electric service, power generation, irrigation water availability, and the status of the irrigation season.
• Issue and purchase warrants to pay for the creation of the Maciel-Peterson Pump District.
• Hear a regular monthly report from the Power Supply Administration.
• Consider including 77.74 acres of additional land into the Swanson-Alvernaz Pump District.
• In closed session, discuss one potential case of anticipated litigation.

The Turlock Irrigation District Board of Directors will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the board room of the TID Main Office Building, 333 E. Canal Dr.
