U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) was sworn in to the 114th Congress by Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Jan. 6 to begin his third term as a member of Congress.
“As the 114th Congress convenes, I look forward to working with the Senate and the President to help advance the priorities of my constituents and ensure a brighter future for all,” said Denham.
Denham beat opponent Michael Eggman in the race for the California 10th Congressional District seat. According to finalized results from the California Secretary of State, Denham received a total of 70,582 votes for a total of 56.1% of the vote throughout the District. Eggman received 15,459 votes less than Denham for a total of 43.9 percent voter support throughout the District.
In Stanislaus County where the majority of the District is located, Denham received 51,034 votes to Eggman’s 39,495; in San Joaquin County where just a portion of the District is located, Denham received 19,548 votes to Eggman’s 15,628 votes.
Following his November victory, Denham called for a series of reforms including a health care system that is long-term and sustainable; a fair tax system with reforms to create jobs, give certainty to businesses and eliminate tax loopholes; and an immigration system that is not broken.
Denham also mentioned the need for a government that would come through for seniors who have paid into Medicare and Social Security, and one that provides Veterans their promised benefits with transparency.
He also expressed the necessity for increased water storage, expanding irrigation districts, and ultimately bolstering the agricultural and exports industry locally, as well as the passage of a highway bill, noting the need to fix bridges and local infrastructure, calling the Central Valley a logistics hub.
“The new Congress brings us new opportunities to come together on solutions to help alleviate the impact of California’s drought, grow our economy, help our veterans, reform our complicated tax code, fix our broken immigration system, and rein in out-of-control government spending,” said Denham.
During the 114th Congress, Denham will sit on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure serving as Chairman to the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, in addition to the House Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committees.
