The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) recently honored U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) with their National Legislative Award for his commitment to immigration reform.
Denham accepted the award at LULAC’s inaugural Emerge Latino Conference, a multi-day gathering of future Latino leaders and students who traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive policy briefings on critical issues.
“I will continue to work to pass real and effective immigration reform that secures our border, strengthens our economy, fixes our broken system and contributes to the greatness of America,” said Denham. “I was inspired to see so many young Latino leaders gathered at their conference and look forward to working with many of them on our shared goals.”
Denham has worked alongside LULAC for many years and was honored to receive the award. LULAC is cited as the nation’s largest and oldest civil rights volunteer-based organization “that empowers Hispanic Americans and builds strong Latino communities.” The league’s headquarters are in Washington, D.C., with 1,000 councils around the U.S. and Puerto Rico. LULACs programs, services and advocacy address today’s and future issues for Latinos.
"We were proud to honor Congressman Denham with the LULAC National Legislative Award for his work with the Hispanic community," said LULAC National President Margaret Moran.
"Specifically, Congressman Denham was the first Republican member of Congress to cosponsor a critical immigration bill that would offer a common sense approach to fixing our country’s broken immigration system.
