For nearly a year, the Turlock Town Center has been awaiting a new anchor tenant expected to bring new life to the embattled shopping center.
dd’s Discounts, a clothing retailer for women, men, and children, has announced that it will be joining the shopping center located on Golden State Boulevard where Geer Road dead-ends.
A large banner has been placed outside of the new location, which will occupy the two adjacent parcels previously occupied by Sears and Goodwill.
Although the large banner has announced dd’s arrival, it is unknown when Turlockers can expect to see the store open its doors. The corporation would not comment on the new location, and did not say when the store would open or how many jobs it may bring.
“At this time, we can only confirm that a lease has been signed at the Turlock, CA location,” the corporation said in an email.
The lease signed is with Colliers International, the real estate firm responsible for managing the Turlock Town Center, who also declined comment at this time.
When the new anchor tenant was first rumored, Turlock Assistant to the City Manager for Housing and Economic Development Maryn Pitt said the new tenant was going to bring $1.8 million in improvements to the shopping center to modernize the now-dated center.
Pitt was unable to provide any information on the incoming dd’s Discounts on Tuesday, including whether or not the $1.8 million in improvements has begun.
The Turlock Town Center was historically one of Turlock’s busiest shopping centers, however has recently seen high-profile businesses leave. Previously anchored by Albertson’s, which has been replaced by a 99 Cents Only store, the shopping center has seen O’Reilly Auto Parts, Anchor Blue, and Fallas Discount Stores either move or close completely.
