Students age 12 to 16 have a fun, free chance to learn how cells work, thanks to California State University, Stanislaus.
“The Secret Lives of Cells” will be presented from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, in Room 229 of the CSU Stanislaus Naraghi Hall of Science. The free class is part of the “Science Saturday” program presented by The Pre-Health Society, American Chemistry Society Club, Biology Student Association and the CSU Stanislaus Science Faculty.
Students can explore the wonders of the living cell by examining cell structures in plant and animal cells and microscopic life found in pond water. They will also make a model of a cell, extract DNA, and make slides by staining cells collected from the inside of their cheeks.
CSU Stanislaus Professor Mark Grobner and biology students will be on hand to guide students through the class.

Future Science Saturdays are scheduled for Oct. 19, Nov. 16, March 15, April 12 and May 10.
The Naraghi Hall of Science is located on Monte Vista Avenue. Signs will guide students to the building from the CSU Stanislaus main entrance, at the corner of Monte Vista Avenue and Dels Lane.
