Officer Aimee Powers of the California State University, Stanislaus Police Department has been honored by two different organizations due to her continuous efforts to combat drunk driving and her integrity as an officer.

Powers, who graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, joined the University Police Department in December 2010. Just a year later, Powers received “Rookie of the Year” honors during the 2011 Staff Recognition awards, a sign of her outstanding overall performance with the department.

On June 1, Powers will be one of the several officers statewide to attend Mothers Against Drunk Driving's California Statewide Law Enforcement and Community Recognition event in Sacramento, where she will receive the California Hero Award.

Additionally, Powers has been named Officer of the Year by the Stanislaus Civitan Club, which will recognize her and other local law enforcement personnel during the annual Civitan Awards Ceremony on May 23 in Modesto.

“Officer Powers has consistently proven herself as a dedicated and hardworking peace officer with a balanced approach,” said Police Chief Steven Jaureguy. “Her success is a direct result of putting integrity first, placing service before self, and striving for excellence in all that she does.”

As one of the leading officers in the CSU Stanislaus Police Department in drunk driving arrests, Powers continues to exceeded performance standards and often participates in saturation patrols.

Alongside her strengths in combating drunk driving, Powers has also undertaken several outreach and prevention efforts such as the university’s Fatal Vision Goggles demonstration, the Thirsty Thursday alcohol awareness program, and the Students Managing Alcohol Responsibility Together program.
