A couple was arrested on Tuesday night after trying to cash an alleged stolen check at the Money Mart on Lander Avenue.
Two suspects went into the Money Mart, located at 130 Lander Ave., to cash a check made out in the name of one of the suspects.
Becoming suspicious upon their arrival, the store clerk called the person who had allegedly written the check to verify it, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis. The victim then confirmed that the check had been stolen, said Lewis.
The clerk immediately contacted the Turlock Police Department, and officers responded at approximately 8:13 p.m.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted the couple. They identified the female suspect as Teresa Gastelo, 43, but the male suspect gave a false name, said the Turlock Police Department.
The male suspect was eventually identified as Juan Espinoza, 24, and found that he was in possession of methamphetamine, according to the Turlock Police Department.
Both suspects were arrested and booked for possession of stolen property, commercial burglary, and attempting to pass a stolen check. Espinoza was additionally charged possession of methamphetamine and violation of parole.
