The Central Valley Suicide Prevention Hotline has received a three-year accreditation from the American Association of Suicidology, Kings View Behavioral Systems announced.
"Just a year ago, the Central Valley had no community-based suicide prevention hotline, and now our services have been recognized as adhering to national standards. Nationally, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death. The good news is that suicide is preventable and help is available," said Kings View CEO Leon Hoover. “This recognition shows how much we can accomplish by coming together as a community to develop and sustain resources that support those in crisis.”
The accreditation recognizes impeccable programs serving people in crisis. The recognition follows an extensive review.
“In its one year of operation, CVSPH has distinguished itself as an organization committed to excellence in the delivery of efficient and effective telephonic crisis intervention and suicide prevention services,” noted the AAS.
The line has responded to more than 9,000 calls and conducted 70 active rescues since it became operational in January 2013.
The CVSPH is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is operated by crisis workers and trained volunteers.
“It is a remarkable prevention program, made more so by the fact that volunteers from the community work in the call center, making this program feasible,” said Karen Markland, Division Manager for Fresno Department of Behavioral Health.
