The No. 7 Cal State Stanislaus men’s basketball team upset No. 2 Seattle Pacific University 80-72 Friday night, behind Marcus Bell’s double-double in the first round of the Div. II NCAA Tournament.
The Warriors were down as many as 18 points in the first half, and 12 at the half. But after a second-half comeback and a game-clinching overtime, Cal State Stanislaus is moving on to the second round of the tournament to face Cal Poly Pomona.
Clinton Tremelling hit a three-pointer to the tie the game at 68-68 and force overtime. Once in the extra period, the Warriors went on a 11-1 run to coast to victory at the Cal State San Bernardino arena.
Bell pulled out another double-double with a team-leading 17 points and 12 rebounds. Bell averaged a double-double this season.
This is the first appearance for Cal State Stanislaus in the NCAA Tournament. The team has now won 8 games straight, improving to a school record 22-8 overall.
The Warriors will face Cal Poly Pomona in the round of 32 at 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
