The Turlock Irrigation District Board of Directors will get their first look at the 2014 budget on Tuesday, during a special workshop.
The workshop will follow the board's normal, 9 a.m. meeting.
The 2014 budget has yet to be publicly discussed, but will include the third and final year of a three-year electric rate increase. Rates will increase 4 percent on Jan. 1; rates also rose 4 percent on Jan. 1 2012 and Jan. 1 2013.
The increase, which appears on consumers' bills as an “environmental charge” to reflect the costs TID incurs to meet state environmental standards, will amount to about $5 per month for the average customer.
TID has exceeded expectations for its 2013 budget thus far, currently $14.3 million ahead of budget, but still $13.5 million in the red. The increased income is largely attributed to increased retail electric revenues.
On Tuesday, the Turlock Irrigation District Board of Directors is also expected to:
• Allow houseboats at Lake Don Pedro to increase in size. The maximum allowable width would grow from 22 feet to 24 feet, and the maximum height from 15 feet to 16 feet.
• Hear regular weekly updates on electrical service, power generation, irrigation water availability, and the status of irrigation season.
• Authorize the Assistant General Manager of Power Supply, Brian LaFollette, to act as the contracting officer for upgrades to TID's Don Pedro facilities.
• Consider the installation of a 36-inch sidegate in the Ceres Main Canal for Carlos Ornelas.
• Approve abandonment from three improvement districts.
• In closed session, conference with legal council regarding two potential cases.
