Body Found in Canal Identified

On March 4th, 2012, Stanislaus Sheriff’s deputies responded to a body found floating in the California Aqueduct Canal. Once deputies arrived, they located a deceased male in the canal, about a quarter mile north of Needham Rd. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Dive team removed the body, which was caught in the down stream side of a control gate.

At the time the male was found there was no identifying information and the body had become decomposed from being in the water, according to Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department
Spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.

On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Department reported that the male has been positively identified as 21 year-old Yosymar Mosqueda , of Modesto. Positive identification was completed by the Department of Justice, identifying Yosymar Mosqueda through DNA. Detectives are conducting the investigation as a homicide, but are not releasing any information at this time as to the cause of death.
