Turlock police arrested two people, one with a loaded firearm, on Friday evening after they allegedly stole a cell phone from Target in Turlock.
Cahauri Williams, 20, was arrested for commercial burglary, possession of a concealed firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. The other individual, a juvenile about whom no details will be released, was charged with resisting a police officer.
According to Turlock Police Department spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis, police responded to a larceny in progress at 4:45 p.m. after the store’s loss prevention officer gave police a description of two suspects.
Williams and the juvenile had allegedly previously gone to the AT&T Store at Monte Vista Crossings to look for a cell phone battery. The store did not carry the battery, so the suspects walked to Target.
While the juvenile distracted a Target employee, Williams allegedly stole a cell phone from a display case. The suspects then allegedly tried to activate the stolen phone at the AT&T store.
Police arrived on scene and noticed Williams discard a sweater. Police found a loaded handgun in the discarded sweater. Williams was then arrested.
The juvenile fled, but after a short foot chase police caught the juvenile as well.
