Turlock Irrigation District is reporting a power outage for customers in a small portion of Turlock.
Customers in the areas of Tuolumne Road, North and Baylor avenues, and Loyola Way are experiencing the outage that started at 10:36 a.m.
According to TID spokesperson Calvin Curtin, the outage was caused by a lightning arrestor failure and 130 customers are currently affected by the outage.
“Lightning arrestors protect the system from damage caused by a lightning strike,” said Curtin. “The arrestor takes the brunt of the energy released in a strike thereby sparing the rest of the system.”
TID crews are currently on North Avenue attempting to solve the issue, however customers may be without power for several hours.
The estimated time to repair the lightning arrestor and restore power was approximately four hours, said Curtin. However, estimated time for restored power is now 8 p.m.
If you experience an outage for more than five minutes, you can call the TID 24-hour service line at 209-883-8301. For more information about outages, visit TID's Outage FAQs page.
