Tommy Kong, 20 of Delhi, ended a run from police by crashing at Soderquist Park. A high speed chase on Monday at about 9:00am led police through residential neighborhoods starting around South Beech Street and Columbia Avenue.
Police officers were aware Kong was wanted for a previous vehicle theft.
Officer Khamo spotted him driving what would turn out to be another stolen car out of Merced. A stop was attempted, but Kong ran from officers in the car. A pursuit ensued. Kong blew a tire while fleeing, but continued.
Kong eventually crashed the car at Soderquist Park causing both airbags to deploy. He was dazed but still made an effort to get out and run. Kong was quickly apprehended. He was uninjured and was booked.
Tommy Kong had a warrant for his previous auto theft. Besides being held on the previous warrant, Kong faces charges for running from the Police, trying to steal the vehicle he was driving, and being in possession of stolen property.
