Weather Delays Monte Vista Paving, Will Resume Monday and Tuesday

Due to “unexpected complications,” paving on Turlock’s Monte Vista Avenue will not be completed this week as planned.

The contractor is now expected to resume paving on Monday and Tuesday.

The $887,037.25 project, approved by the Turlock City Council in September 2013, is repaving Monte Vista Avenue between Crowell and Geer roads.

Traffic is expected to be heavy next week, as CSU Stanislaus students will return to school from Spring Break on Monday, as will Turlock Unified School District students. The City of Turlock had hoped to complete the roadwork during Spring Break.

The university is warning the campus community of “increased traffic congestion and subsequent delays in driving time,” and advises drivers to take alternate routes.

“We recommend that persons traveling to and from the university during this period plan accordingly,” the university said in a campus announcement.

The university also notes that access from Monte Vista Avenue to some campus parking lots may be restricted.

The delay comes due to unforeseen onsite issues, as well as Friday’s rain and cool temperatures. As the road is being paved with rubberized concrete, warmer weather is required to pave.
