Nearly 70 children attended a free, hour-long Lego creation session Tuesday at the Turlock Branch of the Stanislaus County Library.
For the past year the library has hosted the monthly Lego hour thanks to a generous Lego donation from Turlock resident Shilin Patel, 16, a senior at Modesto High School. Patel donated his childhood Lego collection to the library as part of a community service project, and the Lego hour has been going on ever since.
“It makes me feel good bringing other kids they joy I had playing with my Legos,” he said. “Its better they are here then sitting in a closet going to waste.”
Turlock Library Assistant Jana Ciccarelli says the Lego hour is immensely popular.
“There are usually between 70 to 100 kids each month and we totally enjoy having all these kids come in and love seeing how creative they can be. We also see quite an increase in Lego books being checked out,” she said.
Completed Lego projects are displayed for several weeks on shelves throughout the children’s area of the library.
