A homeless man committed suicide on the night of March 30 after he was turned away from a Turlock homeless shelter.
The man arrived to the We Care Program of Turlock homeless shelter around 7:00 p.m. on March 30, but was not allowed to enter because he was not following rules, said Turlock police spokesperson Lt. Ron Reid.
Upon being turned away, the man hanged himself in the area, said Reid.
The man was found about 30 minutes later, and Turlock police and medics reported to the scene.
Upon arrival, medics performed CPR, and then elected to transport the patient to an area hospital, said Reid. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital, Reid said.
It is unknown what rules were broken by man. The We Care Program did not return any phone calls or emails from TurlockCityNews.com.
However, We Care Program did take to Facebook the following day.
“It is with heavy heart that we share that one of our own homeless men has passed on. It is a huge struggle to be in the streets, trying to survive on a daily basis, facing all of life’s obstacles and day to day challenges,” said the Facebook post. “A homeless person once told me the only difference between me and them was I have a door.”
The We Care Program is located at 219 S. Broadway.
