At long last, the City of Turlock will resume work on the repaving of Monte Vista Avenue on April 14.
The $887,037.25 project, approved by the Turlock City Council in September 2012, will repave Monte Vista Avenue between Crowell and Geer roads. The project will install of a rubberized asphalt overlay, similar to that used in the recent rehabilitation of Fulkerth Road.
Work started before Christmas, with the installation of a new concrete median and updated curbs and gutters. The project was temporarily put on hold, though, as it was too cold to install the temperature-sensitive rubberized concrete.
Contractors are now set to begin grinding away the existing roadway during the week of April 14. Actual paving is expected to occur from April 21 to 25, when the project will be completed.
Lane closures will be in effect throughout the construction period, but at least one lane of Monte Vista Avenue will be open at all times. Access to some side streets may be restricted, however.
All drivers are advised to find alternate routes during the construction period.
During the two weeks of roadwork, parking along both sides of Monte Vista Avenue will be restricted, the city says. “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of any parking restrictions.
All California State University, Stanislaus parking lots will remain open, but access from Monte Vista Avenue may be restricted.
The project was timed to minimally affect the university; students will be on Spring Break during the week of April 21.
