A routine traffic stop turned into a short standoff with police at a Turlock apartment complex Thursday morning.
At 8:51 a.m., a Turlock police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and Wayside Drive, said Turlock Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Victor Barcelos.
The suspect fled in his vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit lead to the Patel Palms Apartments on the corner of North Palm Street and Hawkeye Avenue, across the street from Crowell Elementary School.
When the suspect arrived at the apartment, he fled from his vehicle and into an apartment.
Police set a perimeter around the apartment and waited for the suspect to come out.
Family of the suspect told police that the suspect had fled out of the back of the apartment.
Due to the original charges against the suspect, police decided to not force entry into the apartment. Instead, police are seeking criminal charges through the District Attorney’s office, said Barcelos.
Police are currently trying to identify the suspect.
