A new surgeon has joined the team at Emanuel Specialty Care – Orthopedics in Turlock.
Dr. Pete Rinaldi is an orthopedic surgeon who just completed a sports medicine fellowship, and has worked with the Sacramento Kings basketball team.
“Helping take care of the Kings was a wonderful experience and a great learning opportunity,” Dr. Rinaldi said. “Some of the players were very engaging and the quality of care delivered by the physicians and trainers was second to none. Caring for professional athletes, all athletes really, is quite different as there are so many other people who have an interest in the patient. In addition to the usual spouse or family members, the coaches, manager, owners and teammates all have an interest in how the player fares.”
However, the need for orthopedic care is not only important for professional athletes.
“There is a huge need for this specialty across the country and particularly in our region,” Dr. Rinaldi said. “The ratio of orthopedic surgeons to the population is about six per 100,000 nationally, while delivering timely patient care requires 10 or more per 100,000. This translates to a huge patient need here in Turlock, where we’re nowhere near that.”
He said making the move to Turlock was an easy decision.
“The opportunity to join a faith-based organization and staff where everyone seems to be genuinely interested in placing patient care above everything else is wonderful,” Dr. Rinaldi said.
“We really like Turlock as a place to live. It’s a nice size community and the people here have been great.”
Dr. Rinaldi was raised in Spokane, Washington and attended Eastern Washington University. He graduated from medical school in 2007 from Touro University in Vallejo, then completed a one-year internship followed by his orthopedic surgery residency at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in 2012. After that, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at UC Davis, working with both the Kings and UC Davis football team.
Dr. Rinaldi and his wife were married in June 2012 and enjoy skiing, being active and spending time outdoors with their dog, Hogan
