On Friday, November 11th, 2022, at 5:42 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of W Linwood Ave and S Walnut Rd, Turlock, observed a motorcycle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he attempted to make a traffic stop on it, however, it failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.

The motorcycle continued westbound on W Linwood Ave before turning northbound onto S Tegner Rd. As the motorcycle passed Humphrey Ct, the officer noticed its rider, later identified as Andrew Hoffman, 34, of Turlock, take something out of his waistband and throw it onto the ground. Other officers later checked the area and located a loaded handgun.

The motorcycle eventually turned eastbound on W Main St and got onto northbound State Route 99. Officers eventually lost visual of the motorcycle as it weaved in and out of heavy traffic at high speeds, however, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s airship was able to regain visual and began following it from overheard.

Hoffman, likely thinking that he had gotten away, took the S Ninth St exit in Modesto and pulled into Budget Inn, 581 S Ninth St. He got off of his motorcycle, changed his clothes, and began walking away from the motel northbound on S Nine St.

Turlock officers, who were still on the freeway in the Ceres area, arrived within minutes and located Hoffman. He was arrested at gunpoint.

The pursuit’s duration was about nine minutes and speeds reached as high as about 110 miles per hour.

When Hoffman was identified and ran, he returned with a no bail felony bench warrant out of Modesto for possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded and operable firearm and violation of post release community supervision.

Hoffman was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of flight from a peace officer with disregard to public safety, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and destroying or concealing evidence to be used in a trial or investigation, as well as his warrant.
