TURLOCK – Larry Reynolds, who has coached Division I and II championship teams at Long Beach State and Cal State San Bernardino, has been named the new head men’s basketball team coach at California State University, Stanislaus.
In making the announcement of Reynolds’ hiring today, Director of Athletics Dr. Milton Richards expressed excitement about bringing a coach with Division I experience to CSU Stanislaus.
“Larry has the experience and skill to help our student-athletes compete at the highest level,” Richards said.
CSU Stanislaus President Dr. Hamid Shirvani said Reynolds brings the kind of leadership that will help the Warriors become competitive in the Division II California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
“We are pleased about hiring someone of Larry’s caliber who can lead our basketball team to success,” President Shirvani said. “He has extensive coaching experience and has produced winning teams. I am confident that our men’s basketball team will excel under his leadership.”
“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to help build a successful basketball program at Cal State Stanislaus that will represent the university, community, and alumni at the highest levels both on and off the court,” Reynolds said. “I’d like to thank President Shirvani and Dr. Richards for giving me this opportunity and look forward to becoming a part of the Warriors’ family.”
Reynolds compiled an impressive record as a head coach for 10 seasons after a number of years as an assistant coach at UC Riverside and the University of San Francisco. In five seasons at Long Beach State, he directed his teams to consecutive post-season playoff appearances from 2004-05 to 2006-07, including a Big West Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in his final year. Long Beach State rolled to a 24-8 record in 2006-07, and he was named Big West Conference Coach of the Year.
At Division II Cal State San Bernardino, Reynolds’ teams rolled up a dazzling 110-35 record over five seasons and made four consecutive post-season appearances. His clubs won three CCAA championships, two West Region titles, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight twice. Reynolds was named CCAA Conference Coach of the Year four times and National Association of Basketball Coaches District Eight Coach of the Year in 1998-99.
