Stanislaus County has a new head honcho, the Board of Supervisors announced Friday afternoon.

Stan Risen, who is currently serving as interim Chief Executive Officer, will become the permanent County CEO effective Saturday. His hiring and selection by the Board of Supervisors follows a two-month open recruitment.

Risen will oversee more than 3,900 employees and a budget which surpasses $1 billion.

“Each county employee and our entire community will benefit from Stan’s values and integrity
as he leads the County towards its vision of being a county that is respected for its service in the
community and is known as the best in America. We are very fortunate to have someone of
Stan’s caliber and experience within the organization,” stated Vito Chiesa, Chairman of the
Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.

Risen previously served as Stanislaus County's Assistant Executive Officer, a position he had held since 2005. He started with the county in 1987 as an appraiser, and has been in the Chief Executive Office since 1999.

Risen also served as a Ceres City Councilman for 11 years.

Risen was a finalist for the County CEO post in 2011. But at that time Supervisors selected Monica Nino, the county's other Assistant Executive Officer. Nino left Stanislaus County in August to accept a post as San Joaquin County Administrator.

Risen's employment agreement and compensation package will be discussed at the Board's Dec. 3 meeting.
