The long-awaited rehabilitation of Turlock's Monte Vista Avenue, from Crowell Road to Geer Road, is now underway.
The $916,982 project consist of repaving segments of the roadway, removing and replacing concrete access ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, raising lids and frames for manholes and valve boxes, thermoplastic traffic striping and installing traffic signal induction detectors.
Additionally, the median will be fully closed at the intersection of Monte Vista Avenue and Niagra Street to prevent left-hand or U-Turns, as well as jaywalking.
City of Turlock Engineer Nathan Bray says the project should be completed by the end of the year, but bad weather could push the completion date to April 2014.
Bray says there will be periodic lane closures, but Monte Vista Avenue will not be fully closed at any point.
Teichert Construction, Inc. was awarded the construction contract.
