A homeless man was found sleeping on the grounds of Julien Elementary School as school started Thursday morning, with a weapon in his possession.
When Turlock police answered the call from school officials they located Jason Hotchkiss, 43, a parolee, asleep in a field. A subsequent search discovered he was in possession of a concealed knife, along with a stolen toolbox.
It was later determined that Hotchkiss allegedly broken into a nearby residence and stolen the toolbox along with several other items in his possession when he was arrested.
Hotchkiss was booked for felony possession of a dirk or dagger, possession of a weapon on school grounds and burglary. He is on active parole and was also charged with parole violation.
