Turlock isn't just getting a Dollar General Market. Turlock will soon be home to a traditional Dollar General, store officials have confirmed to TurlockCityNews.com.
The former site of Turlock's Hollywood Video, at the corner of Geer Road and Minnesota Avenue, will be redeveloped into the Dollar General store.
Dollar General sells frequently used consumer goods, like health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, seasonal items, and some food and snacks. The store is akin to a scaled-down Walmart.
According to Dan MacDonald, the Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Dollar General, the 7,000 square-foot store will employ six to ten people. The store is scheduled for a soft opening in late November, and a grand opening in early December, he said.
Dollar General announced in June that it will open a Dollar General Market in the former site of Turlock's Sam's Food City, 965 Lander Ave. Dollar General Markets incorporate a full-service grocery section along with consumer goods, like a smaller Walmart Supercenter. The 17,000 square-foot Turlock store will employ 40 people, and is expected to open this winter.
The Tennessee-based Dollar General operates more than 10,000 stores in 40 U.S. states – more than any other retailer in America.
Dollar General first entered the California market about two years ago. The chain came to the Turlock area in April 2012, when a Dollar General Market opened on Lander Avenue in Hilmar.
