Monday marked the first day of swim lessons and public swimming for the City of Turlock, and both children and families were full of smiles and ready to have fun in the sun.
“The first day of rec swim was super busy, but super good also,” said Alissa Kelting, pool manager at Pitman High School. “We had over 100 people for rec swim on opening day.”
Between organized swim lessons and open recreation swim, the pools in the City of Turlock are prepared to have a full summer of fun for the whole family to enjoy.
Also at Pitman High School is the City of Turlock summer camp, where kids can spend all day playing games, doing crafts, watching movies and cooling down in the pool.
“Kids in summer camp can choose to swim Monday through Thursdays, or they can stay in the cafeteria with staff members to keep playing games,” said Alexa Nunes, site manager at Pitman Summer Camp. “Most of our kids enjoy going to the pool though, they get to swim, be in the sun and hang out with their friends, so they like it a lot.”
The summer camp at Pitman currently has approximately 60 active participants. With ten rotating staff members, the summer camp offers a safe place for children to enjoy the summer while their parents work. Additionally, summer camp staff are be available to take children to City of Turlock swim lessons if children are registered.
“We provide the kids with worksheets, board games, organized outside group games, and crafts,” said Nunes. “We also have movie time, and an Xbox available for them to play.”
Every Friday is “Funky Friday” at the summer camp, where the day’s activities are set to match each week’s theme.
“It’s a lot of fun for the kids,” said Nunes. “We get to do fun things for them, and they love it, especially on the days where we have popcorn and slushies for them to enjoy.”
The Pitman Summer Camp costs $93 a week for full days, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parents can also register their children for half days from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $71 per week. A 5-day punch card that can be used throughout the summer is available for $100.
