After months of renovation, it’s time to say goodbye to the old House of Java and hello to Green Grub – a new restaurant that focuses on offering healthy food choices and juices to the community.
In early February, the House of Java and House of Yogurt Too began renovations after new owner Susete Oliveira took over the popular coffeehouse and restaurant. Although many of the food choices remain the same as before, Oliveira wanted to add her own “healthy twist” to the restaurant.
“We have a juice bar that features stuff like the ‘green drink,'” Oliveira said. “We wanted to only have healthy, all-natural, and organic items.”
While the name has changed to “Green Grub,” the old House of Java side of the building has remained practically the same as before.
The old House of Yogurt side, however, has been completely remodeled, featuring a fresh layer of green paint and more modern décor. The new juice bar also replaced the frozen yogurt section of the building.
Green Grub's popular Green Republic drink is loaded with spinach, kale, pear, banana, coconut water and organic almond butter. Other popular juices and smoothies include the Leafy Berry Blast, the Health Nut, the Perfect Date, and Ginger Limeade. The juice bar also sells carrot juice, an Antioxidant Chiller, and “Nature’s Flu Shot” which is made of lemons, ginger, honey, pineapple juice, and cayenne.
Whether you want to detox, hydrate, cleanse or get energized, Green Grub has an all-natural drink to get the job done, Olivera said.
All drinks range from $5 to $8. Fresh salads, sandwiches, coffee and breakfast foods are also available for purchase.
The change has proven to be a success with customers who have been waiting for a health food spot in Turlock.
“Finally, a REAL healthy place in the Valley desperately needed,” wrote a customer on the new restaurant’s Facebook page.
Green Grub is located at 2922 Geer Rd., next to Raley’s grocery store.
