In an effort to help fundraise money to assist the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society at California State University (CSU), Stanislaus, a large benefit rummage sale will be held on May 4. With items such as electronics, books, clothes and much more, the sale is sure to have something of interest for everybody.
“We have to hold a fundraiser once a year, and we thought that a sale would be a great way to help out our students,” said Alexandra Vicknair, President of the CSU Stanislaus chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. “We also thought it would be great for other students and people within the community to come to.”
The Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society is a national honor society that promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.
The honor society helps sponsor a variety of benefits for its members, such as conventions and conferences for undergraduate and graduate students, scholarship awards, and special programs. The CSU Stanislaus chapter, Alpha Epsilon Lambda, currently has about 15 student members within the society.
“We hold fundraising events to help our program out and to provide funds for our students for when they attend conferences and need money for their hotel rooms,” said Vicknair. “We also help fund bringing guest speakers to our college campus, and use our funds to help pay for food and such items for those who attend.”
The benefit rummage sale for the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society at CSU Stanislaus will be held from 7am to 2pm on May 4 at a residence located at 1124 Myrtle Street in Turlock. All profits will go towards the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society’s 2014 budget.
Donations for the sale can also be made by calling Alexandra Vicknair at 209-216-9499. She will make arrangements to either pick up the items for donation or arrange for them to be dropped off prior to the sale.
“We are really honored to have such wonderful students in the program,” said Vicknair. “We’re really excited for the sale and hope that people from the community come out and enjoy it.”
