The young man killed in a Tuesday evening car accident on Monte Vista Avenue has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 17-year old Alex Miranda of Turlock.
Miranda, who was on the soccer team at Turlock High School, suffered life-threatening injuries to the head after the collision, and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.
The 9 p.m. Tuesday collision at the intersection of Monte Vista Avenue and Walnut Road also led to the closure of Monte Vista Avenue from Walnut Road to Golden State Boulevard until late Tuesday night.
The accident occurred when a Cadillac Escalade driven by an adult female was traveling westbound on Monte Vista Avenue through a green light at the intersection at Walnut Road.
An adult male driving a Nissan Sentra was traveling east on Monte Vista Avenue and turned left on a circular green light into the path of the Cadillac. According to the Turlock Police Department, the Nissan was broadsided.
The 19 year-old male driver of the Nissan sustained non-life threatening injuries due to the collision. One passenger in his vehicle, a 23-year old male sitting in the front seat, sustained major but non-life threatening injuries. Miranda, sitting in a back seat, suffered the injuries which led to his passing.
The passengers and driver of the Cadillac were not injured.
The Turlock Police Department does not believe that drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the collision.
The Turlock Police Department reminds drivers to drive cautiously and to follow all rules of the road at all times. TPD would also like to extend their condolences to all the family and friends of Alex Miranda.
